All of Alaska’s seasons are fantastic (winter only slightly lacking) but fall does beat them all. When that first dusting of snow covers the upper half of the mountains and the trees are still on fire, I don’t want it to end. The peak of the Fall colors only lasts about 10 days in Alaska, and then the leaves are gone.
We still haul hunters into the field during the month of October but it is pretty doggone miserable by then. If you are thinking of coming to Alaska this summer on a vacation, and you want to spend time in the mountains, I strongly recommend June 15th-August 5th. It happens fast, but those are the best dates. You can come later in August and the weather may be awesome, but sheep season opens the 10th of August, so we get pretty busy. We do haul lots and lots of Moose, Sheep, Goat, Black Bear, and Brown Bear hunters. If you are looking for a great hunting trip, my father in law Mike Meekin is the most knowledgeable big game guy in the area. He has been guiding big game hunts since he was a kid, and he has an awesome reputation. So I don’t know if you want to walk on a glacier or shoot a bear, but which ever one it is give us a call. Heck, we can help you do both at the same time.
