I took this picture yesterday looking down Wolverine Creek from the forks. Wolverine Creek is just outside of Palmer and provides good access to the Chugach Mountains for those who don’t mind a long walk. Across the Matanuska River you can see the Talkeetna Mountains on the horizon. We are building our house in between the Matanuska River and Talkeetna mountains. I liked this picture because the wheel skis in the corner give the photo some realistic perspective from my world.
This winter has been exceptionally windy with a lack of snow and you can see the South side of the mountains are bare. This is VERY unusual for this time of year, and I am not optimistic about the Spring ski season. I am hoping the end of March brings us some big snow storms. The snow that remains has been severely wind damaged, and these concrete snow conditions exist all across the Chugach. Rather disappointing for those of us holding out for the usually awesome Spring ski season.
