Photo of the Day — Big Rocks

I’m not gonna lie … I don’t land on rocks this big because I think it’s hard on equipment. The perspective of this photo makes it look like I set down in a boulder patch, but the truth is, the landing strip was a bit more user friendly. I know my landing gear, hydrosorbs, and tires can absorb the impact, but I think it is stupid because of the wear and tear. I have $10,000 wrapped up in my landing gear system and I may get away with landing on this stuff occasionally, but, if I made it a habit I would wreck something eventually. The Super Cub is rugged but it has limitations. Part of the problem is that I am always flying around fully loaded with personnel and/or equipment. I love my Super Cub so I try to take good care of her.
