Photo of the Day — Time For Some Color

I was looking through the photos on the blog today and I was noticing an awful lot of white. I do most of my flying in the summer but I am on snow 12 months a year because we do so much high glacier work during the Summer months. Terrain above 5000′ MSL will normally receives snow 12 months a year. Terrain above 8000′ MSL will often get many feet of snow during the Summer months and even more during the Winter. I try to balance the images so we get some nice color occasionally too but truth is … there is a lot of snow in Alaska.

I chose the above image because it is an obviously Summer image taken in July. The seasons are changing rapidly here as the snow is nearly gone from the driveway and I actually saw it rain today. The clouds are beginning to look like fluffy Summer time clouds and the snow tires are coming off the car.
