Photo of the Day — Birds and Ice and Time

When I stepped out onto the glacier after landing here, I noticed there were some animal bones laying on the surface of the ice. I did not pay much attention to it at first and then I stumbled across more skeleton pieces and realized it was the remains of a large bird. Glaciers are great refrigerators, and the best display of time that I’ve ever seen. These rivers of ice creep out of the hills at a snails pace (usually) and they leave a perfectly contoured trail behind them. I realize this is not a perfect scientific description, but if you’ve ever seen the valleys carved by ice and the glacial moraines stretched like a pencil mark through the hills you know what I’m talking about. When God carved this out he left His thumb print on everything. It’s cool to think that those bones may only be a couple years old … but then again that bird could have died 14,000 years ago … who knows I’m just grateful we get to experience all of this.
