I got up yesterday morning and moved a couple of clients off the glacier. They had spent the week at 4000′ in the Chugach skiing their brains out and enjoying the sun. Once I had them back to civilization I set out with a friend of mine to explore the Chugach for ourselves. We landed at 4500′ and skinned/boot packed up to approximately 6000′. The snow was firm in the morning but as the day wore on it got hotter and hotter and the snow softened up nicely. If you want to get out and enjoy the backcountry this is an awesome time of year to do it. The snow pack is really stable if you choose wisely.
The Spring ski season is not over yet. There is still much to do and the Cub makes it easy. Did I mention the Blue Ice Aviation Guarantee … “Perfect weather for the duration of your trip or your money back”. Hahahaha that was a joke. My face and arms are still healing after yesterdays scorching, but I can’t wait to get back up there.
