This was a new landing spot I found this Fall, and I am excited to use it with clients. It’s primo sheep country, and it’s a bummer when we have good sheep, and a good landing site, but no permit holder to hunt the given area. You can see that it is rather steep and it took several passes to eyeball the right spot to set down. Color variations on the ground make texture a difficult thing to judge and it usually requires a little extra work to determine if the ground is smooth enough for landing.
You can see my left tire is rolled over because of the slope. There is a point where it can get very uncomfortable to turn sideways. If I have a big variance in fuel between my two wings I like to keep the fuller wing on the upslope side because it feels better. Side sloping an airplane generally feels much worse than it looks, but I tip-toe carefully when my sidewalls start to roll over. It’s a bummer when your wingtips touch the ground.
