Photo of the Day — Searching for Blue Sky

I took this one yesterday as I was climbing up and out of the Matanuska Valley. It was snowing and sleeting and nasty above 2500′ but I kept going because I could see the blue sky on the horizon. The weather improved dramatically by the time I got to Wolverine Creek and I continued on across most of the Chugach mountains. I was delivering some groceries to a mountaineering team up on the glacier. I spent about 20 minutes on the ground and on the way home it was obvious that things were taking a turn for the worse. By the time I descended back down through Wolverine Valley on my way home the ceiling had dropped 3000′ and steady precip was seen on my windscreen. When I got on the ground and parked the plane I was thankful I had gotten an early start … and as the day continued and the weather deteriorated I was even more thankful. But at least I got some blue sky out of the flight … that’s more than I would have gotten if I had stayed on the ground.
