Photo of the Day — Cloudy Days in the Chugach

The clouds in this photo look like a lid on a petri dish. This is a very common view of the Chugach mountains. In fact, these high overcast days are the best for flying. Clear, sunny days are often bumpy and windy do to convection. The sun also makes it more difficult to see game because the animals will lie down in the shadows of trees and rocks. Even though it’s sunny our eyeballs don’t see well in the shadows when the ground is bright all around. I also think the clouds generally enhance photos, because with the smoother air I’m not bouncing along with my arm out the window trying not to drop the camera.
