I took this photo near the Nushagak River 70 miles North of Koliganek. We landed in a swamp after several hours of flight so that we could stretch our legs. We normally land every couple of hours for obvious physiological reasons. We carefully moderate our morning coffee intake, and often keep an empty bottle within reach … just in case there is no place to land. There was one day that I stayed airborne for more than 8 hours without landing, but I’ll try to never do that again, it was unpleasant. I’ve learned that if I drink lots of water I can sit without any leg cramps for hours on end, but if I am dehydrated I get the squirms and my hamstrings get horribly tight. This is an obvious catch-22.
