We don’t use this installation often, but when the snow gets really patchy, sometimes it’s not wide enough for two skis. OK … I lied, this is just a picture of me doing a routine swap from tundra tires to wheel skis.
I am almost certain that I hold the world’s speed record for this conversion. 28 minutes is my best time, which included everything but the logbook entry. It’s not uncommon for me to make this swap twice in a day. On average I do it about three times per week during our summer months. The tundra tires don’t land on the snowy glacier all that well, and the tundra really beats up the wheel skis … so we are left with little choice but to do lots of swapping. I am a certified aviation mechanic, and I enjoy working on the Super Cub, but this little operation gets a bit OLD.
