It’s September 20th, the last day of hunting season for GMU 13 in South Central Alaska. This is not a landmark day for most people, but it’s a big deal to us here at Meekin’s Air Service and Blue Ice Aviation. We have been going non-stop since the middle of May, but starting tomorrow our role as transportation providers to the wilderness will significantly change. The phones will quit ringing, and we will move off our mountain back to town. The North wind has already begun to blow, and every day the vegetation outside looks more and more dead. I think it’s time to go South.
To celebrate the end of the season we did a sort of combo moose hunt/glacier biking combo with some friends. We spent the afternoon out tearing around on the ice getting sunburnt. I got a bunch of great footage and will edit a video later this winter. It’s even more fun than I remember. Good times had by all.
