I am in Oregon visiting my good friends Gar and Jan near Bend. Gar is the man that taught me how to fly a Super Cub, and this photo was taken in his hangar this evening. He and Jan built the yellow and blue RV-6 (designed by Vans aircraft) in 4 years and completed it in 2002. It uses the same engine as my Super Cub, but cruises at 175 mph, sipping only 8.5 gallons per hour. Gar and Jan are both commercial pilots and are proficient in both the Super Cub and RV. I should mention that Gar and Jan are also the proud owners of Lulu.
You can see the project in the foreground is an RV-12 which they are in the middle of assembling. The RV-12 is similar to the RV-6 but not a tail dragger. Their workmanship on these projects is immaculate, and I am overwhelmed just looking at the parts and pieces.
Time for bed…we hope to have a big day of skiing at Mt. Bachelor tomorrow.
