Photo of the Day — Remembering Summer in the Chugach Mountains

I took this photo in July at about 7000′ in the Chugach mountains. This was one of those days that we moved something like 20 people with 2 Super Cubs, in three different mountain ranges. When big days are on the books, and the weather cooperates, it is a beautiful, beautiful, thing. On the other hand … anybody in the air-taxi business knows what it’s like to have dozens of people milling around the hangar waiting for a lift when the clouds are sitting on the ground. It’s times like this when it’s best to just walk away, and find some blueberry pancakes and coffee.

I don’t know how I got distracted typing about bad weather when the image above shows some of our very finest summer conditions. On a day like this I will spend no more than 30 minutes on the snow, and still get sunburned … I love it.

The climber is my good buddy Christian who lives down in Chile, and is currently enjoying Summer in Patagonia while we endure sub-zero temperatures. I may be a little jealous :o)

Christian owns the first Blue Ice Aviation Hoodie to cross the equator.
