May through September each year we can be found here in our “little house on the strip” … that’s what the sign above the door says. Clients often ask where we live just minutes before landing. I generally respond with, “hold on a second and I’ll show you”. When I point out our little shack they think I am kidding. Samantha, Ali and I love this little place. We have lived here for seven summers and every year it becomes even more like home. When we first moved in it was full of cardboard boxes, a nasty old buffalo hide, and suitcases. Our amenities now include running water, a toilet, shower, high speed internet, and a second room. (We had high speed internet before we had water) Just for the record, neither one of the bent props belonged to me. The traps and snowshoes have hung there for more than 20 years.
Last summer our pipes froze on a bi-weekly basis all summer long, but this summer our pipes have been ice free. All of our plumbing runs outdoors along with our hot water heater so any time after the 10th of September is bonus. Last year I had to cut our main water line with a hack-saw on Sept. 15th because it was frozen solid and I had to free some ice. I have a two hundred yard commute to the hangar that I generally make on my gas powered scooter. We are building our real house in Wasilla, but I need to add some recent photos of the progress to the blog. Don’t laugh until you see the view out the window … it’s the best :o)
