Photo of the Day — I Think It’s Here

It snowed on Thursday night.  48 hours have passed and not a drop has melted.  It was 17 degrees at my house this morning, the temperature has now risen to 25, but the wind is starting to blow.  I love Alaska … but there are times when I have my doubts.  I took this photo today on a short flight, and I am struck by how wintery it looks.  I don’t know why I am surprised about the snowy landscape, because I first started commenting on Winter approaching on August 20th in the blog post “Winter Approaches”.  I’ve had two months and 10 days to prepare since my first realization, and I still feel like Winter crept up on me.  Not to mention this is my 31st winter on this earth …  so you’d think I’d catch-on to the whole cyclic nature of the seasons.  Maybe it’s denial, maybe it’s wishful thinking, but one things for certain, the seasons don’t forget.  I’m ready, bring it on.
Below me is the city of Palmer.  Pioneer Peak is at 11 O’clock and the Knik Glacier at 10 O’clock.
