Top of a formation loop in a T-6 Texan submitted by Mark Linsley. I think this is a sweet photo because the whole idea is absolutely foreign to me. If I was in the back seat I would probably puke … or pee my pants … or both. I just love the bright red paint on the blue sky, and that they are well beyond the vertical point and the horizon is still visible. I just think this is a sweet photo.
I am no photo judge, so you all have to understand just how subjective this little competition is. I just had to go with my gut, and it was really tough. Tougher than I thought. The first submission was Flathead lake in Montana, of which I am very fond. I once thought I was going to die on that lake as I sat in a small ski boat and watched lightning pound the hill top just a couple miles away, that’s a great memory so I loved the photo. Then we had the awesome photo of the ship and the sunset taken taken from a DeHavilland Beaver by Jeremy, just awesome. Then Federico sent an image of Italy’s Lake Varese … how exotic is that? I used to live near Duluth where Reuben sent in the images of the Light house … this was a very tempting selection for me because it is such a unique image and I loved the perspective. Kelly’s photos taken from the Cessna 180 were sweet! The one taken in the middle of lake Illiamna actually scared me because I don’t swim well. Rach if you can tell me that photo was taken from an airplane I will send you a t-shirt too because I think that is an absolutely beautiful picture … but I think somebody did not read the rules hahahaha. Johns picture of the sunset made me happy because it was gorgeous and it was taken from a SUPER CUB! I really am bad at this because I let all these external factors effect my selection, oh well, I guess that’s the benefit of being the judge :o) Very cool photo Elizabeth! I really liked being able to see the forest fire on the horizon and the perfect perspective of final approach … plus I really like Caravans, I just think they are cool planes. And thanks for being such an avid Blue Ice Aviation fan! I liked the anonymous grey drizzly photo of the coast because the photographer was not even certain where it was … but New York Bay is cool, and I think it’s a great picture. Brent your photos of the “Pacer over the Pacific” made me want to put on a life vest! Great pictures, thanks a bunch for sharing. Rich is a friend from Canada who takes some of the finest aircraft images I’ve seen. You can see his gallery here. Thanks for sending in that great photo of the Beaver Rich.
You can see all of these submissions here, on the “Blue Ice Aviation Community” page.
I enjoyed this little competition and I’m thankful you all jumped in. We are going to do another one but I just have to think of a good idea. One suggestion was to allow any photo, not just ones taken from an airplane. If you have any suggestions of subjects shoot me an email at [email protected]. Also I would love some blog topic suggestions if you have any.
Mark I am going to need your address and which size you want, congratulations dude :o)
Thank you all for participating.
