When I named my Air Tax, “Blue Ice Aviation” I was thinking glacial blue ice. The above photo is not glacial ice, but very, very, very blue ice non-the-less. This photo shows Little Lake Clark on May 6th. The main lake was thawed, but Little Lake Clark still had this chunk of blue hanging in there. I certainly would not have trusted the weight of my aircraft to this ice, but I did land on that sand bar to check things out. I actually feel a little guilty when I just buzz by a beautiful piece of creation without taking ample time to enjoy it. I guess this is the pilot version of, “stopping to smell the roses”. I learned this in Hawaii, I’ve seen traffic stop, body surfers turn seaward, and cash registers halt, in-order to appreciate the horizon as the sun slips out of sight.
If you can appreciate this photo you should check out the Blue Ice Aviation Calendar on my web-site. The above photo is the image for February 2013. I just received a fresh shipment of calendars this weekend, and more should be arriving tomorrow to accommodate the last of the Christmas rush. I don’t know how long this last shipment will last, but I hope they will go away pretty quick because I only need one for my wall and January is just around the corner :o) Oh, and while you are at it you might as well grab a couple of hoodies and/or t-shirts for the family, I would hate to see anybody get cold this Christmas when I have perfectly good hoodies sitting in my inventory. Oh ya’, it’s finally white up here in AK, we got snow last night, I hope it’s a white Christmas wherever you are. OK, I’m going to shut-up now.
