This photo makes my head hurt. Have you heard of, “pain by association”? I associate this photo with cranial impact. The wind was blowing hard up at 7500′ and shortly after taking this picture I hit a bump that drove my head into the ceiling of my Super Cub. This is not totally uncommon whenever there is a weather system or “low pressure” within a couple of hundred miles. The prevailing conditions on the surface may be relatively reasonable, but the winds aloft are like a freight train. When you combine the freight train with mountains … the combo makes some nasty bumps. We actually have some hard and fast rules regarding winds in the Chugach. This is because the air becomes so turbulent that it is not safe. We have no business adding the obstacle of unstable air to a game of already thin margins.
None the less, this is a beautiful lake that I would like to check-out someday. I bet it is covered with ice right now :o)
