Right in the middle of the picture, below all the ice falls and crevasses, is a little black smudge. That little black smudge is the camp of mountaineers that we were hauling into the 7000′ foot elevation on one of Alaska’s huge glaciers at the foot of The Chugach’s tallest peak. I was in our Summer wheel ski plane, “lulu”, belonging to a good friend of ours. We operate three Super Cubs, and Two Cessna 185’s. It’s really interesting to fly all the different planes because each one is set up differently, and is it’s own beast.
I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving, I know we did here in Alaska. Because it is Black Friday and you are out spending money anyway …. maybe you should, ummm, perhaps, buy one of these Blue Ice Aviation Calendars for that airplane/wilderness lover in your life :o) Enjoy the day, I’m going to spend mine insulating the remainder of the walls in my house with fiberglass, it’s only 9 AM, and I am already itchy.
