Photo of the Day — Lulu

Occasionally I have the privilege of flying 43Z affectionately known as “Lulu”.  It is the the third Super Cub that we keep on insurance between Meekin’s Air Service and Blue Ice Aviation.  It belongs to some dear friends of ours and they are generous enough to let us use it.  They purchased Lulu in 1969 brand new at the Piper factory for less than $12,000 dollars.  They have kept it all these years and both husband and wife use the cub extensively.  Lulu was a nice Super Cub to begin with, but then they had it completely rebuilt at Cub Crafters last winter and it is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, NICE now.  My Super Cub is a work horse, and while it is well maintained, it is nothing like Lulu.  The owners of this aircraft are the ones that taught me to fly a cub, and they have quite the Alaskan history.  It is always intimidating to fly because it is so new, it’s like borrowing your dad’s brand new $100,000 dollar Mercedes Benz SUV to go trail-riding with … but man is it sweet.   :o)
