That is the Eastern Chugach under my nose. I took this photo yesterday and you can see the snow has crept down the hills a long ways. There are snow cornices at 7000′ that are already 15 feet thick and I watched an avalanche cascade down the mountain carrying only this season’s snow cover. It’s amazing how far along winter is in some of these areas. Of course the line that separates “Summer” from “Winter” is pathetically thin when above 6000′ elevation in Alaska.
