Photo of the Day — LOOK OUT BELOW!

Glaciers strip all sense of depth and size from your brain. I had judged this avalanche to be approximately 1/4 of its actual size. I had seen it earlier in the day and did not bother to take a picture. But then, a few of our clients skied over to it from camp and I was able to get this picture as they skied by. The size of the avalanche became apparent once my brain had something to judge it against.

Today was one of those days I dream about. It was perfect out on the glacier, not a breath of wind, and not a cloud in the sky. The sort of day that would leave me looking like a burnt piece of toast if didn’t weren’t wearing spf 50.

You can see the mud splattered on my wing, that is an indication of the muddy slush pit found back on the runway at home. Break-up is complete in Wasilla and Palmer but Sheep Mt. is right in the middle of it, and it’s making a mess like usual. Fortunately it is an indication of the season to come and I can put up with a little mud if it leads to long Alaskan summer days.
