Truth is, I never go in the clouds. And I mean never. I do not have any thing but a ball, a VSI, and a compass. That is a great question and most people do not realize that we are strictly VMC, both legally and practically.
So to answer your question I either turn around or land and go on short hike or read a book. I always carry a sat-phone to alert my wife so she does not worry. One of my favorite sayings is, "They always haul out the wreckage when the weather gets better."

Thanks for the note.

-Matt

What do you do if you have to go in the "suds"/IMC while you're out over the Chugach for work? Do you ever file IFR ahead or open an IFR flight plan enroute? VFR on top? Land and camp out? :) Most Cubs up here don't have minimum equipment for IFR, correct? I'm curious what pilots up here do.
Thanks! Happy Friday! John
